In the last few months, I had been getting information from one on my SAF1C race watch party fans, Walt Motley. He has a friend, Michael Stratis, who owns & runs RANDOM, a Texas country bar, party house (currently 50 varieties of beer on tap), that is also family & dog-friendly. It’s just north of Boerne, Texas; about 25+ minutes north of San Antonio, TX.

Random is your backyard destination for fun, family & friends to enjoy! Come experience the beer garden, outdoor play for the kids, unwind with some wine, eat some food truck eats & relax in a beautiful ambiance of nature.
Check out one of their bartenders, LOL !
They had already broken the ice by doing a 24 Hours of Daytona watching event (I don’t think they were watching the WHOLE thing). Michael is committed to hosting Formula 1 race watch parties & the first one is coming soon. It will be Sunday, March 16th, 2014; kicking off the 2014 Formula 1 season at the Australian Grand Prix in Albert Park – Melbourne, Australia. As yet, I do not know the time of the recording playback at RANDOM, so I am keeping my options open. I’m sure we are not going to watch it live at 1AM!
So, SAF1C (San Antonio F1 Club) is up & running! But I will be involved to a limited degree & a lessor capacity. Walt & Michael will be handling more of the coordination of efforts this time round. I’ll chip in with some blogged announcements & occasional e-mails. Maybe we can get some sponsorship!?!
This will be a very interesting F1 race season with all the unknowns that the rules changes are bringing. New 1.6 liter, turbocharged v6 engines (with what seems like a less exciting engine pitch), new ERS (different than the KERS of last few years), new & different wing & aerodynamic rules (resulting in a strange variety of decidedly ugly race car nose designs – see below), and so on!
